Freesound Project is a collaborative database of Creative Commons licensed sounds. Freesound focusses only on sound, not songs. This is what sets freesound apart from other splendid libraries like ccMixter.  Read the What is Freesound page to learn more!

ccMixter ccMixter is a community music site featuring remixes licensed under Creative Commons where you can listen to, sample, mash-up, or interact with music in whatever way you want.

 Freeplay http://www.freeplaymusic.com/  A  comprehensive collection of high end broadcast production music spanning all the popular musical genres. This database of music and sound effects is searchable by instrument, mood, tempo, style of music or keyword. Clips of various sizes are available. Free for student and educational use if the terms of the  licensing agreement are met.
